Meet the people behind the models

Melissa
Prof Melissa Penny
Team Head, GDM

Professor Penny leads the Global Disease Modelling team at The Kids Research Institute and holds the inaugural Fiona Stanley Chair at UWA. With over 18 years of experience in infectious disease modelling, she develops data-driven models to support global health decisions, particularly for malaria and respiratory viruses. Formerly a professor at Swiss TPH, she has led international collaborations providing evidence to WHO on vaccines, therapies, and policy strategies. Her work is supported by leading funders including the Gates Foundation and continues to shape intervention impact assessment and health policy worldwide.
